Trying to Save as Many Drops as We Can

We have had some rain this summer, but not enough to get us out of this drought. Currently, approximately 95% of California is in a drought. Here are some tips and advice to help all of us try and save as many drops of water as we can.

7-29 water conservation

  1. Keep a green lawn by soaking the roots and not spraying the top of the grass. Soak the roots every 3-4 days to train the roots to grown deeper and retain more water.
  2. Water early in the morning so more water gets to the grass roots and less water evaporates.
  3. Don’t cut your lawn too short. Longer blades of grass provide more shade for the roots.
  4. Don’t let the tap run when you are washing dishes, brushing your teeth or take too long of showers.
  5. Wash laundry when you have a full load.
  6. Check to make sure you don’t have any leaks inside or outside of your home.
  7. Try to reduce the number of dishes you use in a day. Use the same cup all day for water, juice, etc.
  8. If you are wanting to invest money is saving water you can purchase a water efficient shower head, low-flow toilet or duel flush toilet.
  9. You can also invest in rain barrels to collect water from downspouts.
  10. Don’t forget to report broken city pipes of hydrants.
